About Shepherd University

Shepherd University is an American, state-funded, university in Shepherdstown, which is a town in Jefferson County, in the US state of West Virginia, with a population estimated at a number of approximately 1200 inhabitants, during the 2002 census. Shepherdstown claims to be the oldest town in West Virginia, its roots being traced back to the 18th century, when colonial settlers began their migration into the northern end of the Shenandoah Valley.

Shepherd University was established in September, 1871, and it was chartered 2 years after, by the Legislature of West Virginia. It currently has an enrollment of approximately 4200 students and offers undergraduate majors and minors in areas such as accounting, art, biology, management, marketing, and ecological science.

Athletics

Shepherd's athletic teams are known as the Shepherd Rams and they compete in 12 NCAA Division II sports, which include basketball, softball, volleyball, tennis, lacrosse, golf, and football, in which they won the 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007 WVIAC Conference Championship. Their distinctive colors are blue and gold.
